Diaspora Connections Inc., was established in 1989 as a sole proprietor music publishing company by trombonist and composer Mr. Tyrone Jefferson (former 1981 music director for the Godfather of Soul, JAMES BROWN).

It's mission is to:

Acquire and license music copyrights Sell music (in all formats i.e. compact discs, cassettes, music videos, sheet music, etc.) and Sell associated music products (i.e. t-shirts, posters, etc.) that positively reflect the culture of African-Americans

Mr. Jefferson believes that the music industry systematically suppresses music that depicts African-Americans in a positive image - i.e. they continuously opt to promote songs that reflect a single negative "social" dimension of a multi-dimensional people. Diaspora Connections Inc. therefore was created to be a company that would produce both positively entertaining and educational music about African-Americans for all people.

It is not unreasonable to say that ALL contemporary music in the western world borrows from the music of the African in Americas (the blues, the gospel/spirituals, jazz, reggae, calypso, or samba, et. al. - all of which are derivatives of the sounds of Africa).

Another motivating factor for starting Diaspora Connections Inc. was Mr. Jefferson's belief that until African-Americans understand and control their own natural and financial resources, they will never achieve economic freedom and will therefore be relegated to forever being a people oppressed. Each work published and produced by
Diaspora Connections Inc. links the social, economic, religious, and/or cultural mores of colonized Africans with their pre-colonial African ancestors.
